Who can resist warm fresh bread from the oven? With such a variety of flour, new appliances such as breadmakers and mixers that can knead the dough, homemade bread is easy to make and delicious to eat.

English Muffin Bread

Ingredients:

2 Pkgs. Active Dry Yeast
6 Cups All Purpose Flour
1 Tablespoon White Sugar
2 Teaspoons Salt
2 Cups Milk
¼ Teaspoon Baking Soda
½ Cup Water
Cornmeal

Directions:


In a large bowl combine 3 cups flour, yeast, sugar, salt and soda. In a small pot heat the milk and water to (120° - 130°). Add the liquid to the dry ingredients and beat well with an electric mixer. Stir in the remaining 3 cups of flour to make a stiff batter.

Grease two 8 ½” x 4 ½” bread pans. Next sprinkle cornmeal into greased pans, lightly coating bottom and sides. Spoon the batter into the pans, dividing it equally. Sprinkle cornmeal on top of loaves. Cover and let rise for 45 minutes in a warm place.

Bake at 400° for 25 minutes, until golden. Remove from pans immediately and cool on a wire wrack.

Notes:


This bread freezes well so make a double batch.

Potato Bread/Bread Machine

Ingredients:

1 Pkg. or 2 1/4 Teaspoons Yeast
3 Cups Bread or All Purpose Flour
1 Tablespoon White Sugar
1 ½ Teaspoon Salt
2 ½ Teaspoons Butter, room temperature
2 Tablespoons Instant Mashed Potato Flakes
1 – 1 ½ Cups Warm Milk, 105° - 115°

Directions:


Put the first 5 ingredients into the pan in the order listed. Heat the milk. Stir the potato flakes into the milk and let cool slightly. Add the milk to the flour mixture in the bread pan and push start. Note: Use the amount of milk needed to form a satiny smooth ball of dough.

Ingredients

Bread Machine
Small Pan for heating liquid on stove
Candy Thermometer
Flour Sifter
1 1/2 Lb. Loaf Recipe
Ingredients are listed in order to be combined (See instructions below).

1 1/2 teaspoons of Bread Machine Yeast (Make sure it is not old)
1/2 Cup of Water
3 Tablespoons of Sugar
5/8 Cup of Milk (If the weather is dry try 6/8 to 7/8 but never a full cup)
1 1/2 tablespoons of Butter (Margarine can be used butter is preferred)
3 Cups of well sifted Bread Flour
1 1/2 Teaspoons of Salt

1 1/2 teaspoons of Bread Machine Yeast (Make sure it is not old)
1/2 Cup of Water
2 Tablespoons of Sugar
3/8 Cup of Milk (If the weather is dry try 4/8 to 5/8)
1 tablespoons of Butter (Margarine can be used butter is preferred)
2 Cups of well sifted Bread Flour
1 Teaspoons of Salt
Directions

Spread Yeast evenly into the bottom of your bread pan.
Combine Water, Sugar, Milk, and Butter (or Margarine) into a pan and place pan on your stove. Set stove on low and heat until mixture reaches 120 to 125 Degrees Fahrenheit (Note: If mixture exceeds 125 you will need to throw out the mixture, wash your pan and start over again. Don't ask me why this works but it does.)
Place heated mixture into bread pan.

Sift flour and salt together. This will allow the proper time for the yeast to start to activate (approximately 5 minutes. It can be longer if you wish). Place flour mixture over the liquid mixture already in your bread pan.

Set your Bread Machine to the appropriate settings for a 1 1/2 lb. white loaf of bread.
When your bread is done place the loaf on a rack and let cool for 30 minutes.

French Bread/Bread Machine

Ingredients:

1 Pkg. Yeast
3 Cups Bread Flour
2 Tablespoons White Sugar
1 Teaspoon Salt
2 Tablespoons Butter
1 Cup less 1Tablespoon Hot Water (105° - 115°)
2 Stiffly Beaten Egg Whites

Directions:


Whip the egg whites until stiff peaks and then set aside. Place the remaining ingredient into the bread machine pan in the order given. Add the egg whites. Set the bread machine to French Bread then start.

Notes:


Ingredients should be room temperature.
